Object composed of a metal (silver coloured) medallion. There is a clasp made from the same metal that joins the medal and the ribbon. One side of the medal has an crowned silhouette of George VI. An inscription circles the profile that reads / GEORGIVS VI G : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP : / The reverse has the Australian coat of arms placed centrally ; surrounded by the words / THE AUSTRALIA SERVICE MEDAL 1939 - 1945. The top of this side of the middle shows the dates ' 1939 ' and ' 1945'. The outer edge of the medal has an engraving of the recipients name / NX72397 E BENFIELD /
