Description

The banner has a green background , taking up the center top is a white oval, which has been stitched onto the banner using green thread in a blanket stitch, on which is embroidered (from the top left to right and down) the southern cross in yellow , the Armed Service rising sun, a brown kangaroo holding the Australian Flag , the words "Advance Australia" written in red with a blue scroll boarder , a waratah flower and sprig of wattle . Under this oval , in yellow ink it is printed' "The Diggers" appreciate the / Dinkum Work of the Anzac / Club and Buffet Voluntary / Workers, 1915 - 19, and say "Thank you"' below this to the left is written 'March 26th , 1919 'and to the right' Australia House / London.' Under this on the left is very small faint writing that is illegible.

Provenance

As given on text on the banner it was given by " The Diggers " to the Anzac Club and Buffet Voluntary Workers , 1915 - 19 to say thank you . The date " March 26th , 1919 " is on the banner , which could be the day it was presented and "Australia House London" which could be were it was presented or who it was presented by or other . It was donated to this museum by the Opportunity shop onsite in January 2011 by an unknown donor at which time the history of the object was unknown .
