Description

Machine gun lock made from iron alloy. Underside has Japanese Kanji symbol for sun (meaning made in Japan) and '6989'. The toggle breaks upwards into the empty space behind the feed block. Spent cartridges are dropped out the bottom of the receiver.

The Vickers machine gun or Vickers gun is a name primarily used to refer to the water-cooled .303 British (7.7 mm) machine gun produced by Vickers Limited originally for the British Army. Locks were removed by Allied forces to prevent Japanese using them. The Japanese set up factories to manufacture replica locks. This is an example of a Japanese made lock found out the outskirts of Hiroshima in 1946.
