Description

Current Royal Australian Air Force ensign approved May 1982, flown at RAAF bases in Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pale blue fabric flag with union jack symbol in the top left corner. On flag ground there is a large white seven pointed star below union jack, five white seven pointed stars forming the southern cross in right region of the flag, and a small red kangaroo encircled by a white circle and a larger blue circle directly next to southern cross. Union jack, stars and encircled kangaroo have been stitched onto blue fabric in a different, finer fabric (possibly cotton). Thick white rope or braided cord threaded through left vertical hoist edge of flag and stitched in place; the ends of the rope/braid are tassled. Small label on pink waxy paper card is attached via a strip of red fabric to the end of the tassel that comes through lower left vertical hoist edge - a metal pin at the end of the red fabric is fastened to the tassel. The label reads 'INSTALL SAFETY PIN PRIOR / TO INSTALLING MK 4 MOD 3 / CARTRIDGE AND INERTIA TUBE / REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT / IF BOMB NOT DROPPED REPLACE SAFETY PIN BEFORE / DOWN LOADING OF BOMB'.
